Play it again Kotomi, for old times sake…
Just a little side note for those who recognize the quote under the picture of the day, I am fully aware that isn’t the ACTUAL quote from the movie, but it just SOUNDS better. Anyway, on to the rest of the post.
Having been gifted with the ability to procrastinate with unmatched skill, as well as being armed with a working computer and internet connection has allowed me to amass gigabyte, upon gigabyte of music from every corner of the internet. Through my many journeys I have come across countless number of doujin artists, and amateur productions, and often more than not, I stand amazed, and in awe of the level of skill, and quality that some artists can produce. With that said, it has only been a year since that fateful day I came across a certain group of artists refered to as TAMUSIC.
Amoung their repitore of works include classical re-arrangements of Touhou songs, and of course, songs from the visual novels produced by Key. All in all, this is a discovery post. I just feel like sharing one of my favorite doujin circles deliever some of the finest ensembles I have heard. I always find pelasure listening to them, and hopefully so will you. Here are some good ol youtube videos to keep you on your toes. A download link for their KEY arrangement album is at the bottom of the post. Happy listening!
Download Link for their KEY album: Give credit to the uploader! I will be sure to upload my own albums as soon as time permits.

I’ll give this album a shot, but to tell the truth, I’ve never really enjoyed TAMUSIC’s output all that much. Their arrangements aren’t exactly up to par and they do tend to get on the boring side really fast because they’re not big on the creativity factor. That issue is fairly evident on their Touhou rearrangements, but it didn’t really rear its ugly head until The Recital of Haruhi Suzumiya came along. And once I heard them, I basically gave up on their works as being original or innovative.

@ zzeroparticle I’m gonna have to agree with a good deal of what you said. Especially when it comes to their Touhou arrangements. Some of their pieces seem to be a regurgitation of the original composition with little variance or creative freedom. Dare I say, even the execution of some of their pieces are a bit lacking, but call me a romanticist, I still find their music to be extremely enjoyable. Perhaps the simplistic nature of their arrangements at times be to carbon copies of the original piece gives it a very ground, and base quality that many other doujin groups are lacking. But you are quite spot on, in terms of musical innovation or originality they are severely lacking, but personal preferences will have do it for me. I still find them to be a favorite of mine, and I still admire the quality of their releases taking into consideration that they ARE a doujin group.

Well, I’ve personally enjoyed the IOSYS remixes of Touhou quite a bit and they’ve yet to let me down. Maybe it’s because IOSYS is a huge collaborative effort so each track sounds interesting and while some might be better than others, their albums tend to be more consistent than most.
And with regard to the doujin comment, maybe I’m just spoiled by OCRemix (which specializes in arranging video game music) and their level of quality and creativity, which makes me apply that standard to all doujin groups. (Naturally, it also helps that OCR is a huge collaborative effort with an open submission policy, though I do enjoy certain remixers more than others.)

I have to agree with you here again, Iosys pumps out great tracks, there is no doubt. I will continue to get their albums at every chance I can, but like you said, this is hugely due to the fact that so many groups are collaborating together(especially some of the stuff silver forest contributes to the project)Iosys produces some really wacky pieces, which make my day. I think the fact that each album is so diverse, is what really makes them such a solid group. Sadly to say their C75 release of 東方泡沫天獄 was a bit of a letdown. The trio “trois’ album releases from Alstroemeria, Sound Online, and Alice’s Emotion, were the real highlight from C75. Maybe we’ve come to expect a bit TOO much from Iosys, and the creative steam that kept that collaborative effort seems to be diminishing.
You are correct here. I’ve downloaded some fantastic arrangements from the main site. I still listen to several renditions of Phoenix Wright music courtesy of OCRemix.
