Viva la Moe!~

Fall 2008 Anime Season

The final chart of shows that are currently airing in the Fall season.

Yes ladies and gentleman, with only one month away from the fabled fall anime season, it’s about that time for otaku to gather from every corner of the earth and to oogle at the lineup that only God himself could have dreamed of. I will argue that the past summer season was a huge let down, with very few titles that are even worth mentioning, it was without a doubt a huge disappointment, but alas, the FALL season is upon us, and it will take us to anime heaven and shower us with plushies of immeasurable moe. I’m here to give a preview of the season based on my own personal tastes and preferences. SO, sit back and see what shows you think are worth watching. Yosh!~ More info after the jump!
MUST WATCH SHOWS

Clannad ~after story~
October 2 – Thursday
Synopsis: A continuation of the CLANNAD anime, which will fully explain the “imaginary world” and the girl and garbage doll who live in it. An adaption of the After Story portion of the CLANNAD game.
My two cents: This is it. This is THE singular show I have long since been waiting for. Hard to believe Clannad starting airing a full year ago, after story will deliver on all fronts closing up whatever arcs were not covered, and of course finishing Clannad with Nagisa’s arc. I haven’t seen the Tomoyo After OVA, but I hope Kyotoani incorporated more of Kyou and Tomoyo’s arc into after story, otherwise I’d be severely disappointed. In any case, Kyotoani has not failed me before, so I don’t expect them to fail me now. Except that whole bit with Haruhi 2. Curse you Kyotoani, CURSE YOU. Once after story finishes, I have high hopes Kyotoani will animate Planetarian, or even BETTER, Little Busters! But that won’t go into production for AT least two years or so, but thats really the show I’m waiting for. LITTLE BUSTERS DAMN IT!
Tytania
October 9 – Thursday
Synopsis: Stellar Callendar, Year 446. The capital of the Empire of Euria is attacked by the Empire of Titania, his much more powerful enemy who controls a large part of the galaxy. This harsh battle planted in the minds of a small group of persons ideas of rebellion…
My two cents: Now here is a show thats going to be badass on so many levels my brain feels like it’s going to explode from awesomeness overload. Supposedly 4 of the greatest directors of the anime world are at the helm, but in completely honesty, I haven’t researched this show, just know that I’ll be watching it for sure.

Shikabane Hime
October 4- Saturday
Synopsis:
ANN has confirmed that Gainax’s new television series will be Shikabane Hime (Corpse Princess) this fall. The “Corpse Princess” of the title is Makina Hoshino, an undead girl who hunts down 108 corpses in order to go to heaven. The original manga runs in Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine, and seven volumes have been compiled so far.
My two cents: Corpse Princess is one of those that stick out, not because of quality. but just for the novelty. That doesn’t necessarily mean the manga is BAD, oh heavens no, it’s great, just like Highschool of the Dead, manga like Corpse Princess is something different from your mainstream, everyday, bland, same old. I have not doubt in my mind this show is going to haul ass, and who is producing this anime? Gainax. Thats right, you’re in good hands.

Yozakura Quartet
October 2-Thursday
Synopsis: Akina, Hime, Kotoha, and Ao are four members of the Hiizumi Seikatsu Soudan Jimusho (Hiizumi’s Everyday-life Consultation Office), which, in addition to helping kindergarteners deal with tough times, strives to preserve the peace of their little town, Sakurashin, by hunting down the troublemakers who dare threaten it. Hime is a superheroine. Ao can read minds. Kotoha can conjure up anything with the right word. And Akina…well, he’s just a regular guy, surrounded by three supergirls! Together, they protect the town of Sakurashin. But that’s not easy, as the town faces demon dogs and other supernatural threats!
My two cents: The manga is fairly interesting, and its still one of my favorites, so when I heard that Yozakura Quartet would be animated, my pants flew off and exploded into millions of happy pieces. Eagerly anticipating this one!

Nodame Cantabile Pari Hen
October 10- Friday
Synopsis: The official Japanese website of the Nodame Cantabile anime series has announced the October premiere of the Nodame Cantabile Pari-Hen (Nodame Cantabile: Paris Chapter) sequel. The new story arc will run in Nodame Cantabile’s former late-night Noitamina timeslot in Japan. Both Tomoko Ninomiya’s original manga and the 2006-2008 live-action drama adaptation have already set their later stories in Paris. All versions of Nodame Cantabile have the common plot threads of two music students who drive themselves and each other to greater artistic heights in Japan and later Europe.
My two cents: Only 11 episodes? What the shitty rip off is that?

Ga-Rei_-Zero-
October 5- Sunday
Synopsis:
Freshman Nimura Kensuke has the ability to see ghosts, and his life changes when he meets Kagura, a girl with the power to summon a “Ga-Rei” called Byakuei. The two work together to find evil spirits and devour them with the Ga-Rei.
My two cents: Two words: bad-ass.

Kyou no Go no Ni TV
October 5-Sunday
Synopsis: Kyou no Go no Ni revolves around Sato Ryota, a 5th grader in an elementary school. He is a bright and active boy but always manages to get in to a bit of ecchi troubles with his classmate girls.
My two cents: Now here is the dilemma, I like the aspect of slice of life, and school humor that the OVA had, BUT, I dislike loli ecchi fan service. Hmmmmmm. In any case, I’ll be watching this show DESPITE the reviews, since the OVA was pretty damn funny. The bottom line? Ignore the bashing this show might receive, it’s a definite worth while watch.

Kannagi
October 4- Saturday
Synopsis: Our unlucky protagonist, Jin, uses the trunk of a sacred tree to carve a statue for a school project. When he takes it outside, to his surprise it begins absorbing the surrounding earth and transforms into, hold your breath on this one, a girl! So like all similar setups this guardian deity is pretty pissed that her tree was cut down and lives with Jin while she takes out her anger on squashing bugs….er, cleaning the “Impurities”.
My two cents: What the shit kind of plot summary is that? SIGH, now I’m curious…

Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae
October 4-Saturday
Synopsis: Somewhere in the vast sea of the Internet, there’s a website that can only be accessed at the stroke of midnight. Known as the Jigoku Tsushin, rumor has it that if you post a grudge there, the Jigoku Shoujo will appear and drag whoever torments you into the inferno. Very little is known about the girl – all we know for sure is that she lives with her equally enigmatic grandmother, that three magical straw dolls accompany and serve her, and that whenever a posting on the Jigoku Tsushin moves her, she becomes the Jigoku Shoujo.
My two cents: First season was pretty darn good, didn’t watch the second, SO I guess I have no choice but to watch the third. You gotta finish what you start…

Toradora!
October 1-Wendsday
Synopsis: Toradora!’s story begins with the male protagonist Ryūji Takasu who is frustrated at trying to look his best as he enters his second year of high school. Despite his gentle personality, his eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent so he is utterly hopeless about his chances of getting a girlfriend anytime soon, and does not have many close friends either. After being greeted by his hungover mother in the morning, Ryūji goes to school and is happy to find that he gets to be in the same class as his best friend Yūsuke Kitamura and crush Minori Kushieda. However, it is then that he unexpectedly knocks into “the school’s most dangerous animal of the highest risk level” — Taiga Aisaka — who just happens to also be in his class, and is a good friend of Minori.
Synopsis: Y-E-S, OH HOW I HAVE WAITED! I haven’t been this giddy for a show since…Clannad. My anticipation meter is off the charts. I simply CAN NOT WAIT, for this show to start airing. This show is going to be a grand time. Let’s hope its 24+ episodes long. You just can’t get enough of Taiga <3.

Hyakko
October 1-Wendsday
Synopsis: Hyakko is a manga whose main heroines were four girls when the story started. But as the story goes, many unique classmates show up. Those girls sometimes twist the heroine around their little finger or vise versa. In many situations, they all have noisy get-togethers with each other, and that is really fun.
My two cents: I have no idea what this show is about, but I saw the words, four girls, and decided to watch it. I know…you don’t have to say it.

Skip Beat!
October 5-Sunday
Synopsis: The story revolves a teenaged girl named Kyōko who followed her childhood friend Shō to Tokyo as he pursues his dream of becoming a star. Despite playing housekeeper and taking care of Shō, Kyōko overhears Shō dismissing her as a boring nobody. Furious, Kyōko vows to also become a singer and defeat Shō.
My two cents: All girls rejoice! Bummed about not having enough shoujo anime this season? This is more or less one of the best shoujo manga I have ever read, so don’t fret. This season has something for the ladies as well.

ef -a tale of melodies
October 6-Monday
Synopsis: Sequel to ef- a tale of memories.
My two cents: Oh shit! So dreams do come true. After I learned that they would animate a second season, I was happy enough to throw myself off the nearest ten story building. the first season was one of the most artistic and stylish anime I’ve ever seen, not to mention the story and characters are beautifully crafted. This is a definite MUST watch.

Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka
October 2-Thursday
Synopsis: In order to protect a girl from danger, Junichi Nagase is forced to kiss her. Shocked and disgusted, and without understanding what just happened or why, she screams at him and tells him to “just die!” As it turns out, the girl, Yuuhi Katagiri, is a new transfer student and, much to the surprise of Junichi and his younger sister Minato, their father arranged for Yuuhi to be Junichi’s future wife! Of course, getting married to “that perverted idiot” is the absolute last thing Yuuhi wants! Junichi’s crazy school life with his tsundere bride-apparent has begun!
My two cents: Godly. That is the only way to describe this show. G-O-D-L-Y. I mean, just LOOK at the cast. Rie Kugimiya (tsundere queen), Aya Hirano (our lovley miss aya), Emiri Katou (Kagami), Ryou Hirohashi (Kyou), and thats only SCRATCHING the surface. This show is destined for greatness. Oh and not to mention the return of Erino Hazuki, of Aria fame. Can’t wait to hear Akari’s lovely voice again. ^-^

Tears to Tiara
Synopsis: In a world resembling the middle-age. A girl, Riannon, is set to be sacrificed to appease a resurrected demon lord, Arawn. As her brother Arthur attempts to rescue her, Arawn defies those who resurrected him and frees Riannon from her captors, which leads to Riannon admiring him. This eventually leads to a party of companions being assembled for adventure, with Arawn acting as the leader.
My two cents: I’d love to watch this show, only problem is, we dont if it will be airing in the fall season. There have only been rumors so far, let’s hope for the best!

Lucky Star OVA
Synopsis: An OVA for Lucky Star has been greenlit for production in Japan. The pre-announcement came in the form of an ad in COMPTIQ magazine. The June issue for COMPTIQ magazine will be released on May 10 and will have further details about the project.
My two cents: It’s Lucky Star…thats all you really need to know.

Zettai Shougeki ~Platonic Heart~
Synopsis: The story centers on the Platonic Heart, a jewel that — according to an old urban legend — can grant any wish when collected. Only a chosen few are allowed to compete in the Platonic Heart hunt, and high school junior Aya Iseshima is one of 11 girls and women who are taking part.
My two cents: WOOT WOOT. I for one can’t wait. The only problem I have is why does this have to be an OVA? There is plenty of material to make this into a complete series. Feels like a huge jip to me.

Xam’d: Lost Memories
Synopsis: Sentan Island is a small island surrounded by the Yuden Sea. It exists in a state of dreamlike tranquility, cut off from the war between the Northern Government and the Southern Continent Free Zone. Our hero, Akiyuki Takehara, lives on Sentain Island along with his mother Fusa. He is currently separated from his father, the town doctor Ryuzo, but the bond between father and son remains. One day, after taking Ryuzo the lunch that Fusa has made for him as usual, Akiyuki arrives at school, where he is caught up in an explosion along with his friends, Haru and Furuichi. The explosion produces a mysterious light, which enters Akiyuki’s arm, causing him excruciating pain. He’s given no time to understand it, however, as the white-haired girl who rode on the bus with him guides him to a power unlike anything he’s ever known.
My two cents: Let’s just ignore the fact the series is ALREADY airing. In any case, its made by studio bones and has a very Eureka 7 kinda feel to it. I’ve heard great things about this show already, so count me in!

Hazama no Uta
synopsis: No idea!
My two cents: I REALLY want to see this show. I have NO idea why. It just looks like it has potential. Sadly there is no news on whether or not it’ll air in the fall. SIGH, let just hope for it.

Chaos;Head
October 9-Thursday
Synopsis: The original game’s premise revolves around a high school student, Takumi Nishijō, who unknowingly walks into the scene of a gruesome murder on his way home. More mysterious events starts happening afterwards as more gruesome murders occurs in the area. Takumi struggles to cope with reality and the delusions he experiences as he tries to avoid being getting caught by the perpetrator behind the chain of murders.
My two cents: I’ve been waiting for this anime for a while now. I’m just oozing anticpation, but most importantly, MADHOUSE is producing it, yeeees.

Moryou no Hakou
October 7-Tuesday
Synopsis: The story follows a series of bizarre murders of schoolgirls who have been dismembered and stuffed into boxes. The private investigator hired by a missing daughter’s mother joins forces with an antique book seller and others to unravel the murder spree.
My two cents: It’s madhouse…when have they failed us before? =)

Shigofumi OVA
Synopsis: According to the official Shigofumi: ~Stories of Last Letter~ website, a 13th episode will be available on the seventh and final volume of the DVD release — scheduled for September 26.
My two cents: I personally loved shigofumi although a good deal of people would argue it was a big let down. In any case, I’ll be sure to check this one out.

Shows I’m Interested in

Michiko to Hatchin
Synopsis:
The title’s Michiko is a free-willed “sexy diva” who destroys a supposedly inescapable prison fortress, while Hatchin is a girl fleeing her strict foster parents. The two join forces on an improbable escape to freedom.
My two cents: Samurai Champloo with girls? I don’t know what this show is going to be about, but it looks fairly stylish, so count me in.

Casshern Sins
Synopsis: Tetsuya Azuma (東鉄也), also known as Casshern, is a cybernetic neoroider (新造人間, Shinzō Ningen, lit. “neo-human”) who turned himself into a cyborg for the purpose of hunting down and destroying robots that have taken over the world. His late biological father, Dr. Azuma, was the inventor of the robots that were originally intended to serve humankind, but mutinied en masse when their cold logic concluded that the good of the Earth Ecosystem required the destruction of the human race.
My two cents: I wasn’t alive in the era of Casshern, so I don’t understand the huge nostalgia factor attached to this show. I DID however, watch the Casshern movie that came out in 02, so I’m still fairly interested.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00: Second Season
Synopsis:4 years since the final battle between Celestial Being and the UN Forces. Humanity, having established the Earth Sphere Federation, forms an independent security preservation force, Arrows, separate from the formal Federation army to further unify nations and the will of mankind. But the reality was the inhumane oppression of anti-government powers, doctrines & ideologies in the name of unity.
My two cents: It’s Gundam…I unno what else to say. The Gundam series usually puts out quality work, excluding the shit bomb known as SEED/destiny. I’ve heard great stuff about 00, but I haven’t seen the first season, so I’ll have to watch that before this. Still excited though.

To Aru Majutsu no Index
October 4-Saturday
Synopsis: Set in a city of scientifically advanced superhuman students, but in a world where magic is also real. Toma Kamijo’s right hand, the Imagine Breaker, will negate all magic, psychic, or divine powers, but not his own bad luck. One day he finds a young girl hanging on his balcony railing. She turns out to be a nun from the Church of England, and her mind has been implanted with the Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum – all the magical texts the Church has removed from circulation.
My two cents: I have no idea what to expect from this show. It looks interesting, the art looks great, the plot seems well thought out. So why is this not on my MUST WATCH list? Well…It’s one of those, I have to watch before i make a judgment call. Don’t get me wrong, it looks like it’ll be a darn good show. It’s also being made by J.C. Staff, so chances are, it won’t be a shit bomb.

Kurogane no Linebarrels
October 3- Friday
Synopsis: Kouichi Hayase was involved in an accident and falls into a coma for half a year. Due to this accident he becomes depressed and lonely. However, unbeknownst to him he attained a great power and three years later a giant robot (Linebarrel), which was the cause for the incident, appears before him, causing Kouichi`s life to change.
My two cents: I’m a bit hesitant when it comes to shows like this. It sounds like it has great potential, but it will really depend on the DIRECTION, this show goes. I’m praying that the anime doesn’t focus on action, but more so on the characters, and the internal struggles and conflicts. In other words, I’m hoping this show is more like Lunar Legend, or Gunslinger Girl. If it turns out to be something like Reborn!, or Bleach, count me out.

Kuroshitsuji
October 2- Thursday
Synopsis: Yana Toboso draws the original Kuroshitsuji manga about Sebastian Michaels, an impeccable butler who can carry out practically any task his master requires of him — partly because he is a demon. His current master is Ciel, the Phantomhive family head who is smart, business-savvy, and all of 12 years old.
My two cents: Taka likes it, meaning I probably won’t. I’ll check it out. ^-^

Hakushaku to Yosei
Synopsis: Set in 19th century England this is the story of the 17-year old “fairy doctor” Lydia Carlton. Her life gets thrown into confusion after meeting Edgar, the count of the Blue Knights. She agrees to help him search for the precious sword that is his family heirloom.
My two cents: Hey, it looks pretty good. What else can I say?

Vampire Knight: Guilty
Synopsis: Cross Academy is different from other schools. It has a Day Class and a Night Class, with different uniforms and no interaction between these two classes. Secretly, students of the Night Class are all vampires, led by Kuran Kaname, a noble vampire who 10 years prior saved Cross Yuki from the attack of a stray vampire. Now a Guardian of the Night Class vampires, Yuki works along with fellow classmate Kiriyuu Zero, a young man with a hatred for vampires deeper than anything she could imagine. Together, they protect Kaname and the Night Class vampires from having their identities revealed, as well as protect Day Class students from any vampire attacks that occur do to a vampire’s natural thirst for blood. Based on the manga by Hino Matsuri.
My two cents: Am I the only one who thinks Vampire Knight may be one of the most overhyped, overrated shows last season? Even the manga isn’t as great as everyone makes it out to be. I’ll watch it for the sake of watching it, but I really don’t see what all the hub bub is about.

Kemeko Deluxe!
Synopsis: The story centers on a typical high school boy and a super-deformed, doll-like robot that suddenly appears in his bedroom. The robot declares itself to be the boy’s wife, and only then does a beautiful girl emerge out of the robot’s mouth. The girl turns out to be someone who was promised the boy’s hand in marriage ten year earlier.
My two cents: eh…..I don’t know. I really don’t.

Rosario + Vampire Capu2
Synopsis: The second season to the original Rosario + Vampire
My two cents: It feels like I should be more excited about this show, but I’m not. meh…

Macademi Wasshoi!
Synopsis: Magician’s Academy revolves around Takuto Hasegawa, who attends a magic academy that is not marked on any map. During a summoning spell exam, he accidentally creates a girl named Tanarot, who happends to hold enough magical power to destroy his country, but fortunately Tanarot professes undying loyalty to her “creator.”
My two cents: On one hand, it looks super entreating, on the other hand, it looks like a huge bomb. I really can’t tell at this point. I’ll have to watch and see.

Junjo Romantica 2
Synopsis: The second part of Junjo Romantica continuing the story. Said to air fall season 2008.
My two cents: I’m not a HUGE fan of shounen-ai, but it still looks like a good watch.

Shows I DGAF about

Hokuto no Ken
Tales of the Abyss
Tentai Senshi Sunred
Battle Spirits
Netsusou
Stitch!
Bihada Ichizoku
Noramimi

Those are more or less the shows airing in the October timeframe, now there are some OVA’s and such airing in November, most notably the Seto no Hanayome, and Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei OVAs. But i decided to exclude them, out of sheer laziness. I for one am hoping for a great season, PLUS, the winter season looks downright awesome as well! So guess my anime addition will be satisfied for the next 6 months. It’s going to be a great year. Stay tuned for more updates!
